Sogetsu Ikebana Art

Seeking Beauty, Harmony, and Peace of Mind in Ikebana

The Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition in Plovdiv 2019 (Bulgaria) was a great success. As a continuation of this project, an ikebana exhibition titled "Winter Flower Stories" was organized by Miracle Works, a Sogetsu School study group in Sofia, led by local Ikebana artist Miroslava Ivanova. In the midst of the increasing number of activities that have shifted online due to the Corona disaster, the exhibition was moved from April 2020 to January 2021 to emphasize the emotional experience of seeing real ikebana in person. 8 ikebana artists exhibited 39 works, and after four days of exhibition at the venue, the exhibition was made available online, and workshops and demonstrations were also held. Ms. Eikou Sumura, an ikebana artist who was scheduled to participate in the exhibition from Japan, sent a video message. The exhibition was introduced on national TV, radio, local newspapers, and other media, and many visitors came to the venue during the exhibition period. In the midst of tense days, many people found beauty, harmony, and peace in ikebana works and returned to the exhibition. This project was an opportunity for everybody to reaffirm how necessary art is in people's lives.
