Bringing contemporary dance to life in Hungary

The Body.Radical is an international performing arts biennale focusing on butoh and other contemporary dance forms and its 7th edition took place. The performances were held in three cities, including Pécs, the host city of the European Capital of Culture in 2010, and featured Finland-based Butoh artists Mr Ken Mai and Mr Tashi Iwaoka. The venues were in a schoolyard, differentt locations in a university or churchyards, attracting a different audience. The contemporary dance performances are still limited to cities outside the capital in Hungary, therefore this festival allows a wider audience to enjoy them and the artists to experience the different perceptions from each audience toward their performance. The artists were asked, in the talk program, about the reasons for their choice of a genre of dance, Butoh, and the unique way of expressing themselves. This conversation showed the growing interest of the audience. With high expectations from the audience for its continuation, this biennale will keep introducing a wide range of performing arts works.
