Dark Poem. Hijikata and His Double

New performances and images created with constraints

The collaborative work "Hijikata and His Double" was presented at the Plovdiv 2019 (Bulgaria). The Bulgarian artists collective Metheor Association has been working with philosophers Mr Yasuo Kobayashi and Mr Futoshi Hoshino to research and explore new forms of expression for Tatsumi Hijikata, the founder of Butoh. Dr. Boyan Manchev, the head of the Metheor Association, says that the various restrictions have been a catalyst for them to develop new forms of creation. The project, conceived as a stage installation and poetic publication based on Hijikata's essay "Kaze Daruma", has resulted in a new visual philosophical poetry. The experimental installation "Terra Ultima", which incorporates photography, video and digital technology, presents an image of virtuoso beyond the limitation. Lines from the philosophical poetics "Dark Poem" and "The Virtuoso of Life", dedicated to Hijikata and the pianist Glenn Gould written by Dr.  Manchev, were added to this installation to represent the North. In December, they premiered the film "DARUMA," a new work freely inspired by "Kaze Daruma" too. They will perform the works in Japan in 2022 after further research!
