Performance in Oslo, Norway

Contemporary Japanese artist, Sachiko Abe, has been invited to realize a new commission specifically for Liverpool Biennial 2010.
She has been cutting paper since 1996. What started as a therapeutic and private activity has entered the public realm over recent years in the form of Cut Paper performances. In these durational performances Abe occupies an empty space and continuously cuts until the artist and the space she is in become amassed and engulfed in paper.
She will participate in the artistic focus of the festival, the International exhibition, which this year will take the theme of Touched. The exhibition is curated in partnership with the city's major contemporary visual art venues, with up to 70 international artists exhibiting in Liverpool's prestigious galleries and varied public spaces.
The participation of Sachiko Abe will present Japanese contemporary art to a wide audience including international arts media. The unique, context specific commissioning process fosters relationships and builds networks between participating artists, arts professionals and organisations across the globe, nurturing good relationships, celebrating cultural diversity and building international understanding.

  • Date: 18 Sep. - 28 Nov. 2010
