Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 1967, currently resident in same.
After graduating from the Vilnius Higher School of Technology, Valiauga found employment as a photographer at the Vilnius Technical University. In 1993 he began working as a freelance photographer. In 1995 he was awarded the grand prix at the Kodak European Panorama of Young Professional Photographers and in 2002 the award of the Lithuanian Association of Artistic Photographers.
Valiauga takes an interest in the identity of contemporary human beings rocked by changing times. He turns a sympathetic eye on the presence and activity of modest yet irreplaceable individuals neglected in the midst of vast social change. "About the Borscht and the Pancakes" records the final days of a restaurant going out of business while also evidencing the influence of a Russian lifestyle that remains in Lithuania. Participating in the International Photography and Research Network in 2005, he photographed Lithuanians living in Holland and Dutch living in Lithuania. This work records the fact that even living in a foreign land, one retains the identity cultivated where one was born and raised even while blending into a new culture.
