Fine Art Shanghai-China
Interactive Art Exhibition:"Body Media"

Dates:
July 15 - August 12
Place:
Shanghai Sculpture Space
Curator:
Richard Castelli, Art Director, Lille 3000

An interactive art show from Richard Castelli, art director for Cultural Capital of Europe Lille 2004, who continues to perform art direction for its successor project Lille 3000. In a further development of the media art and robot shows at Lille 2004, Castelli has now curated and produced a new exhibition space on the theme "body media". Media artists from around the world showed work, including the Japanese group Dumb Type. Participatory, interactive works are those that first emerge as art when visitors physically engage with them and they then reflect the various sensations, thoughts or emotions thus generated. The objective of this exhibition was to serve as an opportunity for deeper reflection on the relationship between new media and corporeality as visitors experienced the work it showed.

Perfomances in Europe are here.
JAPAN NOW has made it aim to support contemporary Japanese art in Euope. It offers a platform for performance, dance, theatre, and fine arts with the inclusion of Japanese artists living in Europe. The diverse contemporary art scene of Japan is scarcely known in Europe. It is difficult for Japanese artists to establish themselves in Europe, not only due to the language barrier, but also due to the dominating cliches about traditional Japan. Japan Now has been working successfully for a couple of years now for a growing interest in and awareness of Japanese Modernity in Europe.Japan Now is not simply about the presentation of foreign productions, but about intercultural collaboration. Audience discussions with translators, workshops in which the Japanese artists can teach their techniques and panels stimulate the dialogue and mutual understanding between artists and audience, Japan and Europe.
