Born Romania 1975, currently resident in Bucharest.
After graduating from the Art University of Bucharest, Ilfoveanu continued there with graduate studies in photography and film. In 2004 he was awarded the photography prize by the Romanian artists' union. He now teaches in the Department of Photography and Film at the Art University of Bucharest while creating his own work with a wide range of themes and techniques, from photography to video.
Ilfoveanu uses a box camera, denying himself control of focus and exposure. Rather than accurately transcribing scenes visible to the eye, he gives himself over to the accident of nature and creates his own scenery with the effects arising from chance. Marked in its somber coloration, blurry images and multiple impositions, the stills evocative of time in motion that constitute Ilfoveanu's photography draw the viewer into a world of fantasies while evoking the spatial sense of the location captured and the photographer's own emotions.
