Exhibition to Tour Kanagawa, Iwate, Gifu Prefectures and Cultural Capital of Europe Cork, Ireland! |
| This year brings the 7th installment of European Eyes on Japan/Japan Today, a photography project launched in 1999 with the theme of People and Their Lives in Contemporary Japan in which keen European photographers have been invited to photograph the prefectures of Japan, their photographs seen through the production process and collected in volumes published and exhibited, and the exhibitions toured Japan and the countries of Europe. The work included in this collection is that of four European photographers shot in Kanagawa, Iwate and Gifu prefectures over September to December 2004. We hope that the scenes of daily life and the human figures depicted in their views of Japan will provide opportunities for Japanese people to look afresh on aspects of their daily routines that they tend to overlook for being over-familiar. We look forward as well to this work constituting an opportunity for the people of Europe to deepen their understanding of Japan and sense a closer relationship with Japanese people, both having seemed so distant in the past. |
