Gerard Kelly Gerard Kelly is a lecturer at the Cork School of Music - a constituent school of the Cork Institute of Technology. |
| As a ´cellist he has performed in England, Europe, the US and Canada. He studied in Germany with the legendary French fcellist Paul Tortellier He is the managing director of the Cork Pops Orchestra. He has been involved in commissioning new compositions from TC Kelly, John Kinsella, Gerald Barry, Marion Ingoldsby and particularly the Spanish composer Angel Climent whose cello concerto he premiered .He has also give first performances of Angel´s ´cello sonata and his suite for solo ecello. He has also promoted concerts that have featured other works by Angel. He has been active as a patron and promoter of concerts both nationally and internationally since 1982. He is a board member of the National Youth Orchestra for over twenty years. He serves on the Recreation, Amenity and Culture committee of Cork City Council. He has provided entertainment for practically every major festival since Cork 800. He has recently formed "The London Irish Sinfonia", which consists of Irish musicians based in London. His most recent performances include the World Premiere of the Angel Climent ´cello concerto with the Cork Chamber Orchestra and the Haydn C Major ´cello concerto with the Dublin Baroque Players He is married to Evelyn Grant (Lecturer-Cork School of Music and broadcaster-RTE Lyric fm) and they have 4 children- all of whom are professional musicians. |

| Cork born, Sonya spent her teenage years in Dublin where she took her first voice lessons with Maciej Smolenski at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Aged twenty, Sonya returned to Cork and continued her voice studies with Robert Beare at the Cork School of Music. During her student years, Sonya combined a love for travel with her incessant desire to improve. She attended master classes all over Europe and in 1997, was awarded an Italian Government Scholarship which allowed her to attend master classes with Victoria de los Angeles at Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. In 2000, Sonya made her operatic debut when she appeared as Flora in an Opera Cork production of La Traviata at the Cork Opera House. She has since performed the roles of Mother Amahl and the Night Visitors, Dido Dido and Aeneas, Lazarillo Maritana, Mercedes Carmen, Suzuki Madame Butterfly, and Maurya Riders to the Sea. She will appear as Madame T for Meridian Theatre Company in their production of the same at Everyman Palace Theatre in April 2005, as Uzziah in Judith and Holofernes for Cork Opera Works which will be performed as part of Cork International Choral Festival in April 2005, and as Mother and Witch for Cork Opera Works and Cork Opera House in their co-production of Hansel and Gretel marking the 150th birthday of Cork Opera House in May 2005. Sonya began her sacred music training at Christ Church Cathedral as a member of the cathedral choir. She now serves as cantor in the Honan Chapel at University College Cork, performing as soloist and as member of their plainchant vocal quartet. Her knowledge of the sacred repertoire is extensive and includes Vivaldi Gloria, Handel Messiah, Mozart Vespers, Mozart Mass in C, and Johann Michael Haydn Missa St Aloysii. An honours graduate of the Cork School of Music and an honours postgraduate of University College Cork, Sonya's more general experience includes lecturing at Certificate and Third level, choral conducting, voice coaching, and concert management, publicity and promotion. |
