Born 1959 in Kapellen, Belgium. Now resident Kalmthout, Belgium.
After studies in painting, studied photography with Gilbert Fastenaekens in Hasselt and Lynne Cohen in Salzburg. The novel themes depicted in her work include the television sets, beds and other discarded furniture of Aan de Deur Gezet and the contemporary artificial scenery of Through the Looking Glass. She won major awards at the 4th International Biennal for Photography and Visual Arts in in 2004 and at the 4th International Festival of Photography in in 2005.
With a strong interest in public spaces such as zoos, amusement parks and public parks, Borghouts captures the scenes they present with her eye turned intently on their buildings and their structural elements. Untouched nature is now of but scarcity value. Her work, in which the regular forms and hues created by human beings make a strong visual appeal, show us our contemporary society and its era through the fact of how artificially controlled these scenes, which appear so ordinary to us, really are.
